Charlie is a Wire Fox Terrier… and a dandy-looking one at that. Charlie’s first given name was “Cedarbriar Freedomstar Charlie”.

Fine for those who care about Pedigrees, long names, and designer doggieduds. But, when you live among the tobacco fields, cotton and soybean farms in rural North Carolina, a fancy little name like that can be tough.

So now, his new name is... Charles E. Tuna Pants, O.D. (O.D. = odd dog). We also call him Chuckie Cheese-head because he came from Iowa.

He doesn’t seem to mind at all.

Here’s his side kick and cohort in crime, Chicken…

Why is he a Funky Chicken?

Is it because Charlie’s people are baby boomers looking back on their disco past?

Nah.

It’s because he gets slobbered on by Charlie and gets really funky and nasty-poo

Charlie is a bit obsessed with his chicken. So much so, we can’t say it’s name out loud without Charlie wanting to play fetch.

Charlie will sneak up behind you and drop the Chicken right behind you. There’s a little ball inside the rubber chicken and you can hear a “wobble, wobble” kind of sound when he drops Chicken on the floor. We’re all conditioned to listen for it now. Wonder what Freud would say…”sometimes a cigar is just a cigar”… but a rubber chicken is a great game of fetch!

Charlie became a part of our family in May, 2008. He was at a rescue shelter, almost seven years old and full of interesting quirks. Some people are afraid of shelter dogs. For some, it can be a bit taxing. However, just like people, our pets need care, boundaries and loving persistence to help them adjust to happy, healthy lives with their new people.

Join us as we travel down the road of life with our new buddies, Charlie and his side kick, Chicken at our sides.
